COMMUNITY ENRICHMENT AWARD
We strive daily to make sure our store is providing not only "instruments and accessories" but the teachings of WHY music is so important and how it can help anyone of any age. Because of the passion we have in our own work, we decided to recognize those that give so much of themselves to help not only individuals, but the overall community.
Transcending company, school or even individual success or gain. This award is meant to show appreciation and recognition to an exemplary member of our local community who uses their unique skills and resources for greater good. Whether they are professional teachers and still take the time to come up with even more opportunities for others to learn or a selfless individual that makes time to visit local retirement homes to spend time with our senior citizens. These Local Motives deserve to be held in high regard and we hope they will accept this pat on the back as a thank you from all of us within the city.
This award holds a very special place in our companies values and belief system and we hope that through the years it becomes special to the people of El Paso as well.

Introducing our first recipient.....
Mr. Jose Luis Rios
Mr. Jose Rios was chosen as our first recipient because we believe he is an exemplary individual of what our Local-Motive award is all about:
Jose Luis Rios was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. As a graduate of Coronado High School, he studied under Ida Steadman, and graduated from University of Texas El Paso with a Bachelor Degree in Music Education, where he studied violin with Dr. Mark Schuppener. Mr. Rios is currently the Orchestra Director at Henderson Middle School (EPISD) where he teaches students 6th - 8th grade. In addition, Mr. Rios is a conductor for the El Paso Symphony Youth Orchestra, as well as a coach for EPSYO Chamber Music program.
He has also had a large part in promoting, building and/or assisting several non-profit programs as well! He is the conductor and founder of El Paso Del Norte Philharmonic Orchestra and provides an outlet for adults to have the opportunity to perform during their hectic lives, as well as lending additional opportunities for others to practice their talents in conducting and arranging music.
Tocando Music Project, a non-profit after school program for students to learn an instrument and have music as an outlet even though the orchestra programs are currently not offered in their schools. As Strings Teaching Artist for the TOCANDO Music Project, he got the opportunity to work with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute and PlayUSA, providing research in education and El Sistema in the U.S. borderland.
He has also served as a guest clinician for the YISD Elementary Honor Orchestra, as well as for Pre-UIL Festivals in Pasadena ISD, and TMEA Region 22 Orchestra. Amongst Jose’s other musical exploits, he has played with the Juarez Symphony Orchestra (UACJ), Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra, and El Paso Symphony Orchestra. He is a violinist and the Musical Director for Mariachi Raices de America. Mr. Rios' compositions and arrangements include different genres, ranging from orchestral compositions for chamber groups and various size orchestras, to pop and mariachi; his pieces have even been performed in places such as Santa Fe Opera House, Carnegie Hall, and El Paso Symphony Orchestra.
At under the age of 30, Mr. Rios has already shown so much investment in our community. From teaching young students, to conducting advancing students, to performing for audiences of all kinds, this lover of music, is astounding to not only all the appreciative students, and onlookers, but even his fellow colleagues that watch alongside. When spreading the word about honoring Mr. Rios about this recognition, his fellow colleagues could not agree more on our decision. We hope that more individuals like him can continue doing what they are best at, and know that your dedication does not go un-noticed.
